Excellent New Music Video Pays Homage to 8-bit Video Games

For those of you who enjoy electronic music AND video games - I'm betting that's a fair few of you! - here is a cool new video from the guys at Hospital Records. The track is from the always dependable High Contrast and, while certainly not in the same league as his classic tunes; Return of Forever, Racing Green, Twilight's Last Gleaming and The Road Goes On Forever, it is a pretty decent mix of drum & bass, electro and chiptune sounds. It is an energetic track with some lovely pads halfway through to give it some depth and emotion.

Doubly impressive is that the video is by the artist himself, and is immediately appealing to me due to the inclusion of so many references to classic video games. Familiar landscapes from games such as Sonic and Mario morph and distort around the wild animals that inhabit the surreal landscape.

Not including the garbled load and rom boot imagry from the 8-bit home computers and arcade machines of the 1980's, I have managed to count 38 references from retro games from the 8-bit and 16-bit era.

How many can you spot? (and yes, the quickly flashing Spectrum load screens with art from the game count - don't try to count these if you have epilepsy!)

Feel free to leave comments on how many you have found in the video and, of course, enjoy the track.
